Thor! (now with 86% more Chesterton)

Blasphemy depends upon belief and is fading with it. If any one doubts this, let him sit down seriously and try to think blasphemous thoughts about Thor. I think his family will find him at the end of the day in a state of some exhaustion.” -G.K. Chesterton, Heretics

a sketch of Ms. Marvel from SDCC

It’s been a long time since I’ve woken up after eight o’ clock to sit and drink coffee from my own pot. The thing about working freelance is having to make yourself take time off. So before I run off to go do labor day things (like lunch, and then hanging around the house.) I’ll leave you with one of the few commissions I did at SDCC.

sketch card – Tusken Raider (Star Wars)

I must have been easily pleased as a kid.

I always seemed to get the random, obscure action figures …especially from Star Wars.  My request for Darth Vader and an AT-AT resulted in General Madine, Chief Chirpa, and two Bespin Security guards.  I was fully prepared to re-enact a scene from the craft services table at any moment.

AT-AT Commander: “Hey, Madine, how’d shooting go?”

*swallows cookie*

Madine: “Pretty good.  I think I’ve got a chance with that Mon Monthma chick.”

Cloud Car Pilot:  “These Hamdingers are fantastic!”

Maybe this can account for my obsession with Nein Nunb references.

Doodles from a Sharpie marker

I know a guy who can’t resist a nice, fresh, pointy Sharpie.  If there’s a surface to be doodled on, that surface shall indeed be doodled upon.  And if there is, say, a stack of copy paper in front of his computer, that paper will become well acquainted with any Sharpies lying about.

Last night I…I mean…he…realized there was a nice, fresh, pointy Sharpie lying by the stack of blank white copy paper on his desk.

And while Photoshop slowly processed scans on his ancient computer, that paper felt the wrath of his idleness.

The gunfighters

Remember those Time Life books about the old west?  They were over-sized leathery brown-looking things that sported unimaginative titles like “The Mexican War”,  “Women of the Frontier,” and “The Alaskans.”   I had to do a Google search to refresh my memory as to those titles, because the only one I can remember is “The Gunfighters.”

Man, did I love gunfighters.

I’m not sure why, other than it was history (which I always thought was cool) and it was history featuring guns (which I also thought was cool.)  History, guns, horses and the outdoors?  Yes, please. Count me in.

The other day I drew a cowboy.  If you use your imagination and fill in the lines I didn’t draw, he can be a gunfighter too.
